The TISS Teachers Association (TISSTA) aspires to be a forum for participatory deliberation and action of the academic staff of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). Its role is to enhance the contribution of the academic staff towards promoting the vision, mission and objectives of TISS, which uphold social justice, equity, and secularism.
In pursuance of the above, it has the following specific aims and objectives:
- To promote a democratic structure of governance and functioning within TISS.
- To promote institutional autonomy and an academic culture that supports discussion, intellectual and social engagement, critical thinking and freedom of expression.
- To advocate, secure, maintain and safeguard the rights and liberties of teachers.
- To coordinate and cooperate with other segments of the TISS community and teachers' organizations in other institutions.
- To create new laws and policies that support the rights and responsibilities of teachers.
- To promote discussion and debate about the Indian higher education system, its challenges, and other issues that the association is working on.
The Association is registered under the Trade Unions Act |Registration No. ALC/Est.17/11136 as of 10 April 2017.
The Founder Member of TISSTA is Prof. Meena Gopal.
